Confucius Institute The new director of the Confucius Institute, Dr Nie Aixia, visited us at St Martin’s College. St Martin’s College is one of the few schools offering students the opportunity to learn Chinese. Dr Aixia’s visit aimed to strengthen our horizontal connections with the institute as well as find additional opportunities to collaborate and provide further learning opportunities for our students.

Bonding Day

Bonding Day St Martin’s College students enjoyed their annual bonding day last Friday. Each level visited a different location in Malta and enjoyed a fun-filled day of team building activities and friendly competitions. The purpose of this day is to allow students to integrate with their school friends and teachers in an informal setting. Thank you to all staff who contributed towards the smooth running of all activities. A great way to start the scholastic year!

News or Event Title First-year students attending St Martin’s College Sixth Form participated in an Ice Breaking event which was organised to welcome our new cohort. The day consisted of team-building activities which were held at Mistra Bay during which students had the opportunity to get to know each other better before starting their formal lectures. 3-day leadership workshop

3-day leadership workshop A group of experienced Leaders attended a 3-day leadership workshop. This is the second workshop carried out at Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College by Ms Amy Andrews McMaster, from Denver Colorado. Amy is a leadership and culture consultant, executive coach, courage builder and Certified Dare to Lead Facilitator. She is certified to bring the leadership research of Dr. Brené Brown to organizations that are ready to apply the four skill sets that are teachable, measurable and observable. Amy works with Teams to remove obstacles to courageous leadership. The participants found the workshop effective on a personal as well as professional level. It was also a great way to connect with other team members, so that they can co-create a culture of brave conversations that drive organisational results.

LUX Awards Ceremony

LUX Awards Ceremony St Martin’s College Sixth Form recently attended the LUX Awards Ceremony and EPAS Youth Seminar in Brussels. Three students, Yitong Shen, Emma Borg Manduca and Thais Farrugia, were accompanied by Ms Karen Camilleri, the College’s teacher of French. They had an opportunity to network with young people from other European Programme Ambassador Schools. The students also participated in various talks and seminars and attended the LUX Film Awards 2023. The highlight of their trip was a meeting with Dr Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.

EkoSkola Parliament Session

EkoSkola Parliament Session True to our commitment to giving a voice to young people, Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College Ekoskola team representatives attended the 17th EkoSkola Parliament Session organised by Nature Trust – FEE Malta. The main theme for this year’s session focused on Young People in Danger which was explored through several topics. CHS pupils focused on the dangers on children because of an unhealthy home environment, whilst SMC students questioned the dangers of pollution in Malta. Well done to our student representatives for their invaluable contribution.

Conference Dr Grace Grima and Ms Bernie attended a most interesting conference organised by Cambridge University Press and Assessment in Oxford on Monday. The conference attracted Researchers, Educational Leaders, Teachers and Tech and Educational Companies/ Organizations that are all very interested in the development of assessment and technological tools that will be available in order to improve teaching and learning. A great discussion indeed!
