Operation Wallacea School Expedition

Operation Wallacea School Expedition A group of 10 students from St Martin’s College Sixth Form are currently in Croatia, joining students from around the world on the Operation Wallacea School Expedition. The group is accompanied by Ms Rita Gatt. Throughout the two-week expedition, the students will be researching biodiversity in the Krka valley and diving in the Adriatic. They will be attending a series of lectures about wildlife and conservation in the Balkans while working alongside a series of research teams on a number of very interesting projects, such as surveying mammals and estimating and monitoring fish populations and seagrass. During the second week, the students will complete a PADI Open Water dive training course.Our students will gain the valuable experience of working alongside scientists, ecologists and specialists in the various aspects of biodiversity. They will learn about the habitats and species encountered and make a contribution to various publications produced every year.

SMC Library - Summer Reading SUMMER READING Students are encouraged to visit SMC Library and borrow books to read for leisure during the summer holidays. Sixth Form End-of-Year Celebration

Sixth Form End-of-Year Celebration St Martin’s College Sixth Form recently organised its annual end-of-year celebration. Throughout the evening, the College marked the end of the students’ two-year programme of studies, and awarded special prizes and certificates to a number of students. Benjamin Grech, the President of the College’s Sixth Form Students’ Council delivered the speech on behalf of the students. He highlighted the significance of the event and explained the growth he has experienced throughout the past two years. Mr Anthony Abela, Senior Leader Sixth Form, focused on the importance of having a growth mindset and not giving up. Ms Bernie Mizzi, Director of Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College, presented certificates and awards to all the students in the presence of their families, friends and College staff. Seven students received awards and certificates in recognition of outstanding efforts and achievements in particular areas, such as, self-discipline, independence and initiative. In order to be considered for an award, students had to be nominated by members of the academic staff.

Social Innovation Challenge

Social Innovation Challenge Well done to SMC level 11 students who represented our college in the 6th Social Innovation Challenge sponsored by Microsoft. They came up with the exceptional concept of creating an app to promote inclusion and diversity in schools. The team members were highly praised by the judging panel and their mentor, Ms Eleanor Abela SMC Careers Adviser, for their attention to detail, focus and level of commitment during the challenge.

SMC L11 School Leaving Ceremony

SMC L11 School Leaving Ceremony Our graduation ceremony for the Level 11 students was an emotional and lovely event that was enjoyed by all. The night started with Holy Mass, kindly celebrated by Fr Lawrence Essery. This was followed by the certificate and prize giving ceremony in which we celebrated our students’ successes and achievements.  This is the time when the attributes and qualities of our students are highlighted and rewarded. Prizes and certificates were presented by Ms Bernie Mizzi, CHSMC Director. We enjoyed the speeches given by our students, namely Michael Spiteri Staines, Annah Chapelle Paleologo, Philip Azzopardi and Krista Muscat along with the delightful performances of  Aleksa Andrejevic, Franky Attard, Saskia Cassingena, Anne Grima and Cristina Hili with their impressive performances. We would like to thank all staff, parents and students who attended, as well as all those who helped in the organisation of such a memorable event. Finally, we must express our appreciation and awe at yet another wonderful performance by our Level 11  students in their  interpretation of 'Macbeth' in the ACCS film project ‘Scorpion Mind’. A truly professional production! Towards the end of the evening, student Amy Mallia’s photo presentation provided moments of nostalgia to all present. We wish our students success and happiness in whatever path they choose to follow.
