Building a Financially Capable Generation

Building a Financially Capable Generation A group of St Martin’s College students were selected to take part in an innovative programme called Building a Financially Capable Generation, organized by JA Malta and supported by HSBC. This initiative provides young people with the practical information needed to support them on their way to financial capability both on a personal and business level through discussions and online games and activities. Following the learning aspect, these students will have the opportunity to represent their school as a team at the National Innovation Challenge in March. The local winning team will represent Malta at the GLOBAL FinCap Challenge 2023.

Annual Interschools U16 tournament Level 11 boys represented St Martin's College at the Annual Interschools U16 tournament. The team played exceptionally well and were organised in each department of the field, so much so that they did not concede any goals. SMC are now through to the finals. Well done boys as well as Mr Julian, PE teacher, who prepared them for this tournament.

‘Dare to Lead’ St Martin’s College placed Malta on the ‘Dare to Lead’ map by becoming the first local school to host this training with its Leadership Team. Dare to Lead is a programme designed on research carried out by the well-known Brené Brown. We are very proud to be part of this international community.

Valentine's Day  Our Level 2 parents/guardians were invited to school to celebrate Valentine’s Day together with their children. An activity was held in class followed by an unplugged coding activity with Ms Gillian Harrison Namli related to computational thinking. We thank the parents/guardians for coming! Nursing Now Campaign

Nursing Now Campaign Today Nurses from the Nursing Services Directorate – Malta, visited our Level 5s at Chiswick House School as part of the “Nursing Now Campaign” On the occasion of 202 years from the birth of Florence Nightingale they carried out a workshop aimed at promoting the importance of taking care of our health and to encourage our pupils to pursue a career in nursing. Our pupils participated in various hands-on activities, participated in songs and a puppet show. What a lovely insight to the nursing vocation.

Ghar Dalam and Tarxien Temples Our Level 3 pupils visited Ghar Dalam and Tarxien Temples this week. This outing helped our pupils visualise what they have learnt during Global and Cultural Perspectives (GCP) programme. This programme, through a project-based approach, enables students embark on a cultural journey during which they decide what they wish to research about and collaboratively put together a project to present to the class. This learning area is in line with our School Improvement Process which aims to design and implement a global perspective for sustainable living.

World Symposium on Sustainability Science and Research

World Symposium on Sustainability Science and Research Ms Rebecca Cassar, Geography and Environmental Science Teacher at St Martin’s College Sixth Form, attended the fourth World Symposium on Sustainability Science and Research held on the 19th and 20th of January in Murcia Spain. The Symposium was organised by the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) and the International Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) in cooperation with the University of Murcia. She presented her research paper together with Profs Mifsud from the Centre for Environmental Education and Research (CEER) at the University of Malta titled 'The integration of ESD in geography syllabi at higher education level in Malta.'. Ms Rebecca was awarded a Best Paper award. Congratulations!

Level 8 Option talks

Level 8 Option talks St Martin’s College Level 8 Option Talks were launched earlier today. During these sessions students are carefully guided through their subject choices by means of several talks and meetings with our Senior Leaders, educators as well as our Career Path Adviser. During these sessions, learners are able to ask questions as well as discuss aspects related to their subject choices. Ms Eleonor Abela, our Career Path Advisor, will also be meeting up with students in order to guide them throughout the programme.

Author Visit

Author Visit This morning Level 3s enjoyed a virtual visit with author Trevor Zahra. In preparation for this session, pupils read a few of his books as well as learnt how to write a book review. Pupils also learnt about Trevor Zahra and discussed what sort of questions they wished to ask him during the session. A wonderful experience for our Level 3s! Thank you Mr Zahra.
