Sixth Form Open Evening
Sixth Form Open Evening Yesterday an Open Evening was held at St Martin’s College Sixth Form. The College opened its doors for prospective students and their parents to visit the premises, talk to subject teachers about their choices, personal abilities and ambitions and also register for the next scholastic year. Newly registered students had the opportunity to discuss their career preferences with the College’s Career Advisor while Mr Anthony Abela, Senior Leader, Sixth Form, discussed specific courses of interest with individual students. Prospective students were also informed about the broad range of activities held throughout the year.
Religion Week
Project on Suffering As part of Religious Education Week, Level 10 students participated in a competition, a Project on Suffering. Students chose topics depicting various sufferings in the world and artistically presented them on blocks of wood. They were then exhibited in the chapel. An exercise in empathy and understanding of how Jesus identifies with the pain and suffering in the world and who gives them a whole new meaning through His resurrection. This morning these students presented their works of art to the judges. Well done to all the participants for their insightful research, artistic talent and impressive presentation!
BETT 2022
Bett 2022 Our I.T team is currently in London attending the Bett 2022. Over the next three days they will be exposed to lots of inspiring content. They will also have the opportunity to network with educators from across the globe as well as have access to a large amount of innovative products. We look forward to receiving their valuable feedback from this great experience.
Save the Date
SAVE THE DATE Join us during our OPEN EVENING on Wednesday 6th April from 18:00 to 20:30 hours. This is an opportunity for prospective Sixth Form students and their parents to view our Sixth Form areas and to meet with teachers who will be available to discuss your queries about their subject. Ms Eleanor Abela, Career Advisor, will also be available to guide you. All parents and students who do not already attend St Martin’s College are to present their Covid Vaccination Certificate at the door.
Beach Clean-up
Beach Clean-up A beach clean-up was recently organised to inculcate in Level 7 students an awareness of the imminent threat that the use of single-use plastics and their wrong disposal is causing the environment. Students together with their respective teachers and key volunteers from Din L-Art Helwa Mellieha visited Armier Bay, Little Armier Bay, White Tower Bay, and Coral Lagoon Bay for this task. Provided with gloves, pickers, and numerous bags, guided by the organisers, students spent an entire school day along the seashore cleaning the above-mentioned beaches in a thorough manner. Whilst picking up rubbish lying on the beach students kept a note of the different types they found. Amongst the most common were plastic items such as bottles and bags, cans, snack bags, paper, bottle caps, chair and table parts, rope, nets, and shoes. Students were also given a tour of the White Tower which was recently conserved. Before returning to school, the organizers informed that collectively 305 kilos of rubbish had been collected. Thank you to Daniela Cini and Albert Attard from Din L-Art Helwa Mellieha and a massive well done to all!
Art Option Programme
Art Option Programme Level 9 and Level 10 students from our Art option Programme, visited a number of Art Museums and Exhibitions during an outing in Valletta last Friday. At MUZA, Malta's National Community Art Museum, they discussed and sketched important works from JWM Turner, Antonio Sciortino and Giuseppe Cali' and viewed the temporary exhibition "Giorgio Preca ta' Malta", a Maltese artist who was courageous and innovative in his work despite the public opinion at the time . They also visited an exhibition at Spazju Kreattiv by a leading local contemporary artist, Austin Camilleri "Le.Iva: Anger is a Lazy Form of Grief". The students were very lucky to meet the artist himself and the International world known curator Roza Martinez and assistant curator Irene Biolchini. This outing gave our students the opportunity to analyse and discuss various works of arts, whilst appreciating the work of top local artists
Championing Community Spirit
Championing Community Spirit As part of the school’s mission towards championing community spirit and promoting sustainability our CHS wellbeing team organised an initiative during which Early Years staff members were offered a warm ‘Fairtrade’ drink as a thoughtful act to complement kindness week. Level 5 pupils contributed towards this activity by preparing ‘Fairtrade’ facts, which they learnt during D.E.C - Earth Matters Programme. These facts were handed out to staff with their warm drink.
Dress to Express Day at Chiswick House School
Dress to Express Day at Chiswick House School This week we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week which focused on the theme Growing Together. Throughout the week we encouraged pupils and staff members to consider how they have grown, and how they can help others grow. It was also an opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on children’s mental health and the importance of sharing/speaking to someone whenever one feels the need. To close off our week, pupils and staff were asked to come to school dressed in any clothes which they feel best expresses who they are.
