Amazing results during Inter-school Swimming Competition Amazing results achieved by Chiswick House School and St Martin's College students during an Inter-school swimming competition. The group won a smashing total of 12 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 9 bronze medals. Well done to all, you made us very proud!
U13 Girls Football Tournament
U13 Girls Football Tournament St Martin’s College U13 Girls Football Team took part in the Inter-school Football Tournament, competing against another 8 teams from various schools. The girls played very well as a team and showed great team spirit. After a very intense playoff game SMC U13s were awarded third place. Well done team! Thank you coach Pablo Doffo.
Latin pilot scheme for Level 5s
Latin pilot scheme for Level 5s Ms Jennifer Mitchell, a Level 2 teacher at Chiswick House School and a trained teacher of Latin and Classics, speaks about the Latin pilot scheme for Level 5 pupils. The scheme focuses on the teaching of Latin with the aim of improving literacy and exposing the students to the rich cultural history of the Ancient World which continues to influence us today. SMC U13 Boys Football Team made it to the Inter-school competition finals!
SMC U13 Boys Football Team made it to the Inter-school competition finals! This year the U13 boys Inter-school Tournament took place at St Martin’s College. A total of 18 schools took part and the teams were divided into 3 pools. Our SMC boys secured 1st place in their pool and will be competing in the final round which is due to take place at the end of May, between the final 6 schools. Thank you coach Andrea Vella. RIDT – Dental check-up for Level 4 pupils
RIDT - Dental check-up for Level 4 pupils The University of Malta’s Mobile Dental Unit visited our Level 4s at Chiswick House School. Pupils were given a talk on dental care and also availed themselves of a free dental check-up. Every year, Chiswick House School and St Martin's College select a charity to support. This year we have chosen to support RIDT the University of Malta's Trust set up to collect funds for research. The RIDT was established by the Government of Malta in 2011 as an integral component of Malta’s established policy to bolster investment in research and development on a national level. Since its inception, the RIDT has managed to engage with various sectors of the Maltese society and to raise the much-needed awareness about the benefits of university research and the need to support it. This engagement has led to various projects being implemented, including PhD scholarships in cancer research, climate change and ALS research, a kidney research programme, research projects in engineering, a fully-fledged mobile dental clinic, and a research programme in the genetics of osteoporosis and one focusing on eye disease.
CHS Celebrates World Book Day
CHS Celebrates World Book Day In celebration of World Book Day, on Monday 23rd April, Chiswick House School pupils were invited to dress up as a character from one of their favourite books or bring a prop which represented the character. The children also brought their books along and during the day were asked to drop everything and read. This was a great success as characters such as The Lorax, Superman and Harry Potter filled the school and pupils and teachers shared their love of books together.
UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day
UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day This year’s UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day, celebrated on 23rd April, was themed ‘Reading it’s my right’ and commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. St Martin's College Library lessons focused on the right to education and the importance of reading. Discussions were held, among other things, on the ‘Syria’s secret library’ and on Malala, the girl who stood up for education and was shot by the Taliban and went on the receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
Mock job interviews for SMC Sixth Form students
Mock job interviews for SMC Sixth Form students Four members of staff of PwC Malta conducted mock job interviews for St Martin’s College Sixth Form students. The aim of these interviews is to help students experience a real-life job interview and help them prepare for the world of work. Students attended a preparatory meeting and were asked to present their CVs and cover letters during the mock interview itself. Individual feedback will be provided to the students during the follow-up session which will be held next week. St Martin’s College Sixth From is committed to developing the skills that young people require for the modern workplace. This exercise, organised by Ms Eleanor Abela, the College’s Careers Adviser, helps our students build the confidence they need in an interview situation. The College would like to thank PwC Malta for providing our students with the unique opportunity and for their valuable advice and support.. The College is also very proud to point out that one of the visiting interviewers was Nicola Galea, a past student of St Martin’s College Sixth Form.
