Juvenes Translatores Filippa Gauci and Matthew Cremona, two students studying Maltese at Advanced level at St Martin’s College Sixth Form, yesterday participated in Juvenes Translatores, a translation competition organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation. The aim of this contest is to promote multilingualism and intercultural understanding, as well as encourage students to consider a career in translation. The students’ teacher of Maltese, Ms Mandy Tabone, ably helped them to prepare for this contest.

Sixth Form Students Participate in the JAYE Company Programme Launch

Sixth Form Students Participate in the JAYE Company Programme Launch A group of ten Level 12 students attending St Martin’s College Sixth Form, participated in the JAYE Company Programme launch last Saturday morning. The students were introduced to the initiative through a treasure hunt around Valletta and had three hours to visit a number of locations around the capital city. Throughout the morning, all the teams had to answer specific questions, post tiktok dance moves, design posters and participate in other fun activities. The morning ended with a meeting at the Malta Chamber of Commerce during which the schedule for the whole year was presented. Our students are supported by Mr Karl Vella, one of our College’s Marketing teachers.

Outdoor sketching and painting Our Level 12 and Level 13 Art students at St Martin’s College Sixth Form were outdoors at Girgenti Farm last week, sketching and painting! They experienced the main essentials in ein plein air painting. This involved choosing a subject, analysing and composing a scene while developing techniques to create a landscape reflecting this quiet and beautiful area of the Maltese islands.

Sixth Form Online Meeting Level 13 students studying Physics at St Martin’s College Sixth Form held an online meeting with Mr. Matthew Grima from the Diagnostic Science Laboratories at Heritage Malta. This presentation highlighted how the use of Physics and Chemistry concepts are utilised to interpret the chemical composition, date materials and source their origin, amongst other highly interesting studies.

ESU’s Public Speaking Workshops

ESU's Public Speaking Workshops A group of St Martin's College Sixth Form students recently attended the ESU's Public Speaking Workshops. These students learned the skills and confidence to present themselves in a powerful and effective way. They learnt how to understand their fears or anxiety around speaking in public, and how to control them. They learned how to not just look confident but how to become more confident. They also learned how to have clear voices that make people sit up and listen to them speak. They are now more equipped to handle stressful situations like exams, class presentations, or speeches.

Juvenes Translatores Competition Last November, Level 13 students studying Maltese at St Martin’s College Sixth Form participated in the Juvenes Translatores competition. This is an annual translation contest for students attending colleges in the European Union. Euroscola

News or Event Title A group of four students from St Martin’s College Sixth Form participated in this month’s session of Euroscola. This session was all the more special because it was led from Strasbourg by Dr Roberta Metsola, Vice President of the European Parliament and MEP for Malta. Dr Metsola answered a number of questions that were put to her by some of the hundreds of students taking part online from all over Europe. Hannah Ciantar, Nil Geren, Elena Meccariello and Dora Varadi actively prepared for this session and, via live conferencing, asked Dr Metsola a question focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on education.

During this meeting the University students talked about their experiences and answered questions that Sixth Form students asked.
