Our vision
Our belief is that children can realise their full potential within a well-ordered and challenging educational setting. We have established a framework of real values that aims at ensuring the acquisition of basic skills within an exciting programme which implements a broad-based curriculum and translates into high academic achievement.
The Curriculum ensures continuity – starting from Early Years and ending at Sixth Form level. It has been developed through continuous updating processes that have retained the essential basics while adopting key new developments. The use of technology in the classroom, the importance of sharing educational experiences with others, in Malta and abroad, the introduction of Performance Management and the ‘thinking in time’ approach are but a few innovative practices already in place.
We have seen how children can flourish within a climate that respects individuality, allows for creative expression and gives space to explore new ideas within safe parameters. We believe that the images in this website clearly capture this climate. Learning is such a natural and wonderful phenomenon but such a complex one! Self-discipline and excellent home-school relations are key components of success. Parents are viewed as keen collaborators in all school activities and essential stakeholders throughout their children’s Early, Junior, Middle, Senior and Sixth Form years.
It is our hope that every student will leave Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College equipped with happy images of precious moments in time, an array of academic achievements and a well-developed personality. OUR HISTORY
Founded in scholastic year 1905/1906 by Miss Ethel Yabsley and Miss Madeleine Sceberras, Chiswick House School originally intended for the children of British families stationed in Malta.
Chiswick House School in time established itself as ‘a distinguished educational institution’ at Windsor Terrace, Sliema. Under successive heads the school operated throughout both world wars, and in spite of its small population, created a name for itself as a ‘veritable international school’.
Mrs Yvonne Mangion, a cultured and visionary educator, acquired the school in 1962, and guided it into a new chapter in its varied history. The school is still owned and run by the Mangion Family, and Ms Marguerite Mangion, Mr Stephen Mangion, and Ms Bernie Mizzi, were pivotal in the expansion which took place in the 1980s and 1990s.
In 1991, under the dynamic joint headship of Ms Bernie Mizzi and Ms Marguerite Mangion, the school moved to award winning premises in Kappara. Today Chiswick House School offers a full educational programme to Early Years and Junior School pupils aged from three to ten years of age, in a warm, safe environment.
Further expansion took place in 1992 when, at the request of parents, the school re-introduced its Middle and Senior School classes. St Martin’s College was purpose-built in Swatar to meet the requirements and specifications of a leading modern college. The latest development in its long history of expansion and innovation has been the establishment of a successful Sixth Form, thus ensuring a full programme of education up to 18 years of age.
After the untimely demise of Ms Marguerite Mangion in 2000, Ms Bernie Mizzi led Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College (CHSMC) as a far-sighted and charismatic Principal. Ms Bernie, as Director, relies on a strong Senior Leadership Team of dedicated professionals. This includes Mr David Lambon as Principal, internationally trained Heads, and a dedicated group of qualified teachers, administrators, and support staff.
Today, CHSMC is firmly established in Malta’s educational system as the largest independent educational establishment on the island, offering a top quality, mixed ability education to boys and girls not only from Malta, but also from over 30 other countries, with English as the main language of instruction.

Our Parents
We believe in keeping close contact with parents who are prime stakeholders in their children’s education. Communication with parents is kept open at all times. For this purpose we organise various Parents’ meetings early in the scholastic year. Email updates are sent to them regularly and they are invited to our Parent Workshops where interesting educational topics are discussed.
Two Parents’ Days are organised each year.
