Julia Micallef graduated from St Martin’s College Sixth Form in 2018, having attended St Martin’s College since Level 6. She studied Marketing and English at Advanced Level, and Biology, Psychology, Sociology, and Systems of Knowledge at Intermediate level. Julia knew she wanted to pursue a business-related degree but was still exploring which path to take. Marketing stood out as it introduced her to consumer behaviour and strategic thinking, while subjects like Psychology and Sociology deepened her understanding of human interactions – both of which have been valuable in her career. English also played a key role in developing her communication and analytical skills.
After Sixth Form, Julia pursued a degree in Finance and Technology at the University of Sussex, where she developed a strong foundation in business analytics and data-driven decision-making. During her time at Sussex, she also had the opportunity to complete a summer programme in Luxury Management at SDA Bocconi in Milan, which broadened her perspective on global business and high-end consumer markets. Currently, she is finishing her MSc at UCL in London and further developing her expertise in business analytics. Alongside her studies, she also completed a TEFL certificate and spent the summer months teaching English as a foreign language. That experience has not only strengthened her communication skills but also enhanced her ability to adapt, lead, and engage with diverse audiences.
Julia states that one of her key academic achievements was winning a prize for achieving the highest grade in her FinTech Research Project during her undergraduate studies. Her research analysed financial adoption and consumer behaviour during the COVID-19 period, focusing on mobile payments, and has been recognised for its contribution to the field. Julia has also been offered the opportunity to publish her findings in academic journals.
