Katrin Farrugia attended St Martin’s College Sixth Form from 2020 to 2022. During this time, she studied Pure Mathematics and Physics at A Level, alongside Psychology, Maltese, Graphical Communications, and Systems of Knowledge at Intermediate Level. From a young age, Katrin was particularly drawn to the fields of mathematics and physics; however, she was still unsure whether to pursue a career in architecture or engineering. Choosing these subjects allowed her to keep both options open while gaining a deeper understanding of each field.
After completing her studies at St Martin’s College Sixth Form, Katrin chose to continue her education at university, where she is currently entering her third year in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Built Environment Studies. Her time at the College provided her with the clarity she needed to decide between architecture and engineering, ultimately leading her to pursue a path in architecture.
Katrin cites St Martin’s College as playing a pivotal role in helping her identify the right path for her future. With the guidance and support of her teachers, she was able to explore both architecture and engineering in depth. She credits their encouragement and personal attention for helping her reflect on her interests and strengths, ultimately leading to a well-considered decision to pursue architecture.
The college also provided her with a strong academic foundation in the subjects she now builds upon daily. The knowledge she gained there continues to serve her well, especially as many concepts in her current university studies are direct continuations of what she learned during her A Levels. Beyond academics, St Martin’s College also taught her the importance of dedication, resilience, and striving to reach her full potential.
Looking back, the community and support she states the experienced at St Martin’s College will always stand out and make her truly appreciate the time she spent there. Despite the challenges of starting Sixth Form during the COVID-19 pandemic – with the first year held entirely online – she still thoroughly enjoyed her time at the college, where she formed lasting friendships, built strong connections with her teachers, and discovered potential in herself that she hadn’t realised before.
