The English Department at St Martin’s College organised its Annual Soirée, this year dedicated to Jane Austen on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of her birth. The evening brought together the Middle and Senior School for a celebration of song, dance, poetry, talks, drama and an exhibition inspired by Austen’s world.
The programme included musical performances, student scenes from Sense and Sensibility, an original Austenian conversation, and a Regency dance in period costume. Academic papers written purposefully for this event were presented by Dr. Maria Theuma and Professor Ivan Callus. Professor Stella Borg Barthet gave a presentation on Austen while a student interviewing panel was held with Poet Laureate Dr. Maria Grech Ganado, who enthralled the audience with her poetry and words, moderated by Dr. Maria Theuma.
Guests were also invited to visit the Austen Exhibition Space and the newly inaugurated ‘Living Room’ commemorating 120 years of CHSMC. We thank everyone involved in making this event such a success!
